Southwest Institute of Chemical Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Southwest Institute") was established in 1958, and was a key research institute directly under the former Ministry of Chemical Industry. In 1999, it was restructured into a technology-based enterprise, and now is under the Sinochem Group Corporation.

Southwest Institute is a high-tech enterprise with the concept of "Science First", taking C1 chemical industry, gas separation and comprehensive utilization of industrial vent gas as research objects, and operating with the characteristics of "original technology+ patented products + engineering consultation and design package + technical service". It consists of technical R&D and industrial entities such as technical center, pressure swing adsorption institute, engineering company and catalyst business department. After more than 60 years of development, Southwest Institute has formed two dominant technical fields of "C1 Chemical Industry" and "Gas Separation", and two main businesses of engineering technical services and products.

Southwest Institute relies on more than ten scientific and technological innovation platforms such as "National C1 Chemical Engineering Technology Research Center", "State Key Laboratory of Industrial Vent Gas Reuse" and "National PSA Gas Separation Technology Research and Promotion Center". In the field of C1 chemical industry, a series of industrial achievements have been formed, such as hydrocarbon catalytic conversion, methanol synthesis from syngas/coke oven gas, methanol to acetic acid by carbonylation technology, methanol to dimethyl ether, and coke oven gas methanation technology; In the field of gas separation, a series of technologies for recovering light hydrocarbons from refinery gas, separating and recovering, of H2/CO/CO2/CH4 by pressure swing adsorption have been developed, with more than 1600 sets of plant have been promoted at home and abroad.
